Agencies

Bangalore, Mar 8: Infosys Technologies is gifting its 'potential women staff' a two-day, one-night tour, stay and fun package on its campuses in Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Pune, Bhubaneshwar, Hyderabad, Chennai, Chandigarh and Thiruvananthapuram.

Over 1,200 hand-picked girl students (of semester 4&6) from around 400 engineering colleges around the country would be receiving these all-for-free gift hampers that contain an enjoyable stay, delicious, learning and confidence boosting sessions, workshops on self-development, soft-skills, leadership capabilities, analytical and problem solving abilities, inspirational interactions with senior Infy execs, entertainment and campus tours.

Geeta Kannan, head, diversity, Infosys Technologies, said that the company has kicked off a special initiative, Spark, a partnership between Infosys Women's Inclusivity Network and Campus Connect initiative, to carry out this exercise.

"Three months ago we conducted a pilot on this country-wide exercise. Our focus is to help more number of women enter the workforce, therefore they feel included and their socio-economic value is enhanced. The idea is to give them a perspective on the implications and importance of being employed."

The itinerary includes check-in at respective campuses at 8.30 am on March 7, followed by break-fast, campus tour, recreational activities at 6.30 pm and the day culminates with a multi-course dinner.

The next day begins with breakfast and progresses with interactions with leaders and various learning sessions and the picnic ends by 4 pm. Infosys' Bangalore campus alone will host over 200 guests of fair-sex.

Well, this gentle, gender gesture of Infy clearly has an underlying objective: To enhance its girl-power. Women currently account for 32% of its total employee base of 80,000 people.

On an average, around 30% of tech workers are women while the percentage is likely to go up to 45% by 2010, as per a recent Nasscom estimate.
