The
Government is concerned over the security and welfare of the
fair sex. There are provisions in law for providing them security.
But, a question arises as to whether the women are really
safe and secure? It can be said clearly that today a lone
woman does not feel herself secure. Some miscreants on Monday
set ablaze a Dalit girl in Sehora as she and her family members
had opposed their teasing her. Similarly, on Tuesday a girl
was burnt in Shahgarh, Sagar. The girl received 90 per cent
burn injuries and is struggling between life and death. In
the capital city Bhopal, a youth set ablaze his girl friend
because she had refused to be involved in prostitution. Such
incidents are common now. It has become daily routine for
the women to face torture in and outside of their house. On
several occasions action is not taken against the accused
in such cases. The mentality of using women for wrong purposes
and torturing them continues to this day. Specially, rape
and eve-teasing incidents have not come down. Many a time
the anti-social elements get success and keep themselves safe
due to the negligence and failure of the police personnel.
Police should always remain alert to foil attacks on the weaker
sex. At the same time the people who see rogues committing
crimes against women, intervene. Such elements should be monitored
at the social level also. In this connection awareness on
moral basis is also a must. This problem cannot be solved
only on legal basis. There is need to give proper security
to the women and eve teasers and anti-social elements should
be dealt with a firm hand.
