Maintain decorum in House: MPs should set example

The Lok Sabha Speaker, Somnath Chatterjee was moved on Monday when the members created scenes in the Parliament and used objectionable words on the issue of ill-treatment to north Indians in Mumbai and some other districts of Maharashtra. Irked over the behaviour of the MPs the Speaker commented that the House had become an arena of play. RJD, JD(U), BSP and SP commented lightly whereas, a member of Shiv Sena was not behind to use objectionable words. Chatterjee at last had to tell the House that this type of conduct amounted to gross indiscipline and a danger to the country's harmony. The unwanted and objectionable comments of the Shiv Sena MP were not taken on record. People give example of Indian democracy to the whole world. But for last few years the conduct of and activities of MPs have hurt this concept. Now, the MPs and MLAs do not bother about the honour of the parliament or assembly. Increasing tendency of making hurdles in the House is a matter of great concern. The people's representatives are not able to present their views in an effective and orderly way in the House. Rather the bad behaviour of these representatives is sending a wrong message to the people who elected them with high hopes. It should be kept in view that the people elect them to raise questions in the House regarding their problems. Solution of any burning problem can be arrived at through sincere talks only. In no case the people's representatives should utter words that may create divisions in the country. It is hoped the members understand the genuine concern of the Speaker and mend their ways. People elect them so that there is a stable government in the country to run its affairs.
