Governor to chair National Safety Day celebration

By Our Staff Reporter

Bhopal, Mar 1: Governor Dr Balram Jakhar will chair the 37th National Safety Day celebrations at Raj Bhawan on March 4. Apart from employees working in various industries and organisations, including the organised and unorganised sectors, general public will also take the safety pledge on the auspicious day, which will be administrated by the Governor at 11.35.

According to a press statement issued by the co-ordinator of the programme and Secretary, National Safety Council Dr SA Pillai, the programme will be attended by ministers for Labour and Industries; RK Singh, Executive Director, MC Prasad, General Manager (HR & Safety), MK Dubey, General Manager (Hydro) and RD Tripathi. Officials from the department of Industrial Health and Safety and members from Industries will also attend the programme, he added.

It may be mentioned here that the National Safety Council was established by the Union Ministry of Labour on March 4, 1970. The day is being celebrated as "National Safety Day". He said that the National Safety Day campaign spearheaded by the National Safety Council for commemorating its foundation day has grown into a major national campaign spread over a week in most of the places in the country. The campaign has been receiving full support from the Central as well as State governments over the years.

This auspicious day is aimed in renewing commitment of management, employees and general public towards working safely round the year. The ultimate objective is to ensure integration of Health, Safety and Environment in the work culture and day-to-day activities. This will achieve greater participation of employees in HSE activities.

RK Singh, Executive Director, BHEL, will highlight the theme of this year "Ensure safe and healthy work places". The theme is relevant in the wake of recent man-made and natural disasters faced by the Nation. I wholeheartedly appeal to all to organize activities during the Campaign focusing this theme which would help in making the work place more eco-friendly and ensure safety to Men, Machine, Material and Methods.
