175 tonne beef destroyed after court orders

By Our Staff Reporter

Bhopal, Feb 29: Following the directives of a local court in Dhar District, 175 tonnes of beef, which had been seized from 12 containers while it was being conveyed illegally last month, has been destroyed safely.

The flesh was being conveyed from Uttar Pradesh's Sahibabad to Mumbai to be exported to Gulf countries when it was seized by police following a tip-off by some Hindu outfits near this district's Ghora Choupati area on January 27.

Samples of flesh were sent for analysis to a Gujarat-based laboratory, which found it was beef. However, the court again directed to send the samples to a Pune-based laboratory, which also confirmed that it was beef.

The court has issued orders to destroy the flesh yesterday. Police buried the flesh in the forests of Bavadipura village in Nalchha-Ghamnod area.
