Govt sops to farmers: Solve basic problems

State government has made a slew of sops for farmers of the state. Kisan Mahapanchayat was organised on Wednesday where the Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced concessions to them costing Rs 5600cr. Now, the farmers of the state would be given loan at five per cent rate of interest instead of at 7 per cent from cooperative banks. The state government has also exempted penalty on dues of electric bills. Wheareas, the remaining dues have been exempted up to 50 per cent. Along with this dues bills of agriculture pump consumers' energy charges would be borne by state government. State government keeping in view the problems of farmers has made several announcements. Certainly, luring the biggest vote bank towards the government this initiative has been taken. With a view to coming assembly elections in the state these announcements are important. It is necessary that the announcements should be implemented properly. But the government should also pay attention to the basic problems of farmers. Keeping in view risk in agriculture sector its cost should be brought down. Uncertainty in availability of seeds and fertilizers should be solved and reforms in the present conditions are necessary. Proper arrangements for supply of power are also essential. Generally the farmers have to face great difficulties in Mandis. First of all they should be freed from clutches of middlemen and the role of Mandis should be made completely transparent. It is seen that middlemen remain active from farm to Mandi and Mandi also gets affected with this disturbance. Farmers do not get proper prices of their crops. Such arrangements should be made so that the farmers could get proper rate of their crops.
