Adulterated goods galore
|
| Spurious petrol, diesel, kerosene oil, medicines (according to one estimate business in fake medicines runs into Rs. 4,000 crores), ghee, pulses, spices and a host of other adulterated goods and fakes are on sale in the market without any let or hindrance.
The food inspectors and other concerned officers of the departments of the government whose job it is to check the quality and purity of goods and bring the culprits involved in adulteration and faking to book are seldom seen active. If they had been doing their job sincerely as many people will not be engaged in the business of adulteration and fakes on a regular basis and as many goods will not be selling in the open market as freely as is done now.
From time to time newspapers have been have been exposing the adulteration rackets and the TV channels showing footage of factories involved in producing spurious goods and selling them through their agents in the market. The sale of ghee made out of animal bones, milk made by mixing chemicals like soap and urea and poison injected into vegetables to make them big and fresh and fake cold drinks are glaring examples.
At a time when the kidney racket is making headlines, it will be worthwhile asking those entrusted with the job of supplies of genuine goods whether they know what is happening in their backyards and if they do why have they not been able to check the menace.
