Farmers in Padma lists
|
| It refers to anguish expressed by Dr MS Swaminathan MP, the father of green revolution in India, on ignoring farmers in list of Padma awardees. Rather an exception was there in this year's list of Padma awardees when Haji Kaleem Ullah Khan (UP) is named for Padmashree for 'Mango Plantation and Grafting'. However it is true that with agriculture being the main source of livelihood for majority Indian families, Union Agriculture Ministry should search many more names of those in agriculture for Padma awards. Move will also check ever-increasing population-migration from rural to urban areas.
