Asia
is witnessing a spurt in hard-core terrorist activities. The
Maoists organisations too have become bold and are indulging
in wanton killings. India is facing the biggest danger from
these anti-national elements. Leaving Bhutan, most of the
neighbouring countries of India are witnessing terrorists'
activities. Pointing his concern at this situation, Indian
external affairs minister, Pranab Mukherjee has rightly said
that the issue of acquiring nuclear weapons by the our neighbouring
country is not the end but that these weapons could also reach
at the hands of terrorist groups. Addressing audience at the
10th Asia Security conference, organised by Mukherjee Institute
of Defence & Analysis, the minister made it ample clear
that India was against countries being armed with nuclear
power. India would not support equipping of any country with
nuclear weapons, he added. Defence Minister, AK Antony also
expressed security concerns in the Asian sub-continent. According
to him there are nearly 347 terrorist organisations active
in the world; of these 187 are in Asia. In this situation,
Antony is right when he suggests for taking up the challenge
posed by terrorists jointly. There should also be a joint
solution to this problem. There is no doubt in the fact that
the world faces the biggest challenge not to see nuclear weapons
in the hands of terrorists. We are witness to some parties
being involved in nuclear proliferation and unable to check
themselves. Such nations do not have control over their people
too which is a dangerous thing. Without taking the name of
Pakistani nuclear scientist, Abdul Kadir Khan, Advani said
that the whole world knows about the proliferation of nuclear
weapons. In this situation every state has to take maxium
precautions.
