Personal Thought: Organ racket needs a thorough probe

So many things are being written about the Gurgoan organ racket that came to light about a week back. It had ramifications not only in major cities of India and many private hospitals in Mumbai, UP, New Delhi, Ballabhgarh and a host of other places but also in many parts of the world. No sooner did it come to light, the blame game started.

Such a big racket cannot escape visibility and the hush-hush atmosphere surrounding it cannot last long. How is it then that a patient in Greece knew about the availability of a kidney in Gurgoan and travel all the way to this place and find his way to Dr. Amit's hospital to have his kidney replaced, the Government authorities in Gurgoan didn't know about the racket going on for such a long time.

Every one is pointing fingers at the Gurgoan police and baying for their blood. They have to take the rap on their knuckles for failing to raid the place and book the guilty but how is it that the District Magistrate/Deputy Commissioner and Chief Medical Officer, Gurgaon whose responsibility it is to inspect all the private hospitals for their proper upkeep and maintenance in their jurisdiction are being spared the scrutiny? According to a report one of Deputy Commissioner relations was the beneficiary of a kidney in Dr. Amit's hospital. That is a big give away. Now follow it up. Further it is reported that a Minister had inaugurated Dr. Amit's hospital. I suspect Dr. Amit had a god number of politicians on his clients and friends list who afforded protection in return for favours and bribes. Many of these things are coming to light and more will come to light soon. It is now being said that Dr. Amit had connections with the underworld too.

And what were the Income Tax Department and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence doing? Aren't they accountable for multi-crore-organ racket thriving under their very noses? Has any one called their explanation? Has anyone asked them why no scrutiny of Dr. Amit's return undertaken and if it had been undertaken why was it so superficial? And pray what was the Immigration doing? Why didn't it raise their hackles about so many foreigners converging in Gurgoan? There are many unanswered questions relating to the whole racket and many organizations need to answer. Rackets such as the Organ Racket just unravelled will continue till such time as all the guilty, officials and non-officials, racketeers and their aids and members of the political fraternity who are found guilty of direct and indirect connivance in the illegal business are booked and sent up for a trial and awarded exemplary punishments. Last but not the least enact a foolproof law affording adequate compensation and medical attention to the poor who for reasons beyond their control have to part with body parts to keep their hunger way. Also, this is time for other states to wake up. There may be many Dr. Amits merrily carrying on the organ trade in their backyard. People my not be very forgiving next time.
