Minor forest produce: Strengthening market network

The daily bread of the tribal people of India is linked directly with minor forest produce. There is therefore need to develop network for marketing of their produce. With this view in mind, the Minor Forest Produce department is planning to develop a National Information network, as informed by the secretary of Union Scheduled Tribe ministry. The official had come to the MP capital to take part in a meeting convened to safeguard the interests of tribal communities. Looking to the varied tribal population in the State, the establishment of such a network is only the need of time. Vanvani and tribals in the State have their own identity and knowledge of medicine. They have good knowledge of roots for treatment of various diseases. However, they are not in conversant with the market rates of these natural medicines. The information network at the national level will provide the tribals with the price of these medicinal plants and herbs. At present the tribals charge minimal amount. The establishment of a network here would help them avail remunerate price for their natural medicines. The benefits of the endangered minor forest produce would be availed by people at the national level.
