Preserve peace in Mumbai: Let better sense prevail in MNS

The North Indians, staying in Mumbai, have once again become victims of a weird way of thinking. For the last two-three days, activists of Maharashtra Nav Nirman Sena led by Raj Thackeray are involved in attacks on the north Indians. Raj wants that those living in Mumbai live as per their culture or speak only Marathi or they should leave the Maharashtra capital. He resents celebration of Chhath festival by theBiharis or the Uttar Pradesh Day by the UP people. Raj is annoyed at Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan opening a school in his home state than in Mumbai for he acquired his present status due to being in Mumbai. Hence as per Raj Thackeray whatever he wants to do should be for Mumbai only. After learning of adverse reactions from the northern leaders from some states, the Maharashtra Nava Nirman Sena workers went berserk and attacked taxi drivers in Mumbai. They also beat up mercilessly the non-marathis and even indulged in burning of shops. Even though the Samajwadi Party leader, Amar Singh has also filed an FIR against Raj Thackeray. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh has assured the north Indians for providing them all security. Now, there is also news of widespread opposition to the actions of Raj's party all over Maharashtra. Raj Thackeray should try to peep into the past of Maharashtra. India's commercial capital and the film industry is not the result of only the hard work of Marathis. Mumbai's development is the result of tireless efforts of parsis, Marwaris, Gujaratis, south Indians and the people from the north of India. There is the role and contribution of every Indian in the development of Mumbai or as a matter of fact any city or town in India. If the people who have come from outside leave Mumbai, and likewise if the Bollywood also shifts from there, then what would be left of Mumbai? Do Maharashtrians not live and work outside Maharashtra? India belongs to all of its citizens and they have right of earning their livelihood anywhere. It would not be wrong to deduce that Raj's raising this issue is to bring himself into the limelight. No true Maharashtrian will agree with the views of Raj. If Mumbai is to be made congestion free and its ever increasing population checked, then other suitable methods would have to be found and implemented.
