Central team concerned over drought in MP

By Our Staff Reporter

Bhopal, Feb 6: A Central team constituted to take stock of drought-affected areas has expressed concern over the drought situation in four districts of Bundelkhand region in Madhya Pradesh. A nine-member team led by Union Rain Shadow Area Development Department Chief Executive Officer JS Samra completed the tour of drought-affected Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Damoh and Panna districts yesterday.

Samra said that the drought situation in Bundelkhand region was quite serious. A report would be submitted to the Centre in this regard soon. Earlier, the team visited Chhirraha, Karahi and Virsinghpur villages in Pawai block and gathered information about damage to crops and availability of water from villagers.

Villagers informed the team that ponds and wells had dried due to absence of rainfall in the past two years. Scarcity of water has badly affected sowing of Rabi crop. A large number of villagers are migrating to towns due to financial problems caused by the drought.
