ABVP to gherao Raj Bhavan

By Our Staff Reporter

Bhopal, Feb 5: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) today urged Madhya Pradesh Governor and Chancellor Balram Jakhar to initiate action against local Bhoj Open University Vice-Chancellor Kamlakar Singh as per the High Court's directives.

''The Raj Bhavan will be gheraoed if proper action is not taken in six weeks. For the past four years, the ABVP has been conducting a campaign for removing this state's tainted vice-chancellors. The protest began right from appointment of the vice-chancellors but the chancellor ignored the protest,'' ABVP Madhya Pradesh Secretary Hitesh Shukla said at a press conference here.

He alleged that Dr Jakhar was compelled to remove several corrupt vice-chancellors. ''Mr Singh's continuing in office, despite possessing a fake degree and the charge being proved against him in the High Court, puts a question mark over the Chancellor's working style. The Chancellor's dictatorship and government's apathy are responsible for the dismal state of Madhya Pradesh's Higher Education,'' Shukla added.

Vice-Chancellors of Gwalior's Jiwaji Rao University, Indore's Devi Ahilya University and Sagar's Dr Hari Singh Gaur University were removed, he pointed out.
