Aid package to Arunachal: China gets the hint

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh announced a package of Rs 1000 crore for the economic development of Arunachal Pradesh. After taking charge of Prime Minister he visited the eastern state of the country for the first time. He laid stone of multi-dimensional Dibang Hydroelectric project of 3000 mw here. Prime Minister had given assurance for giving relief package for compensation of loss last days due to the changes in weather pattern. Dr Singh had gone to China two weeks back and this visit of the PM to Arunachal assumes importance moreso when China claims some parts of Arunachal as its territory. It may be noted that China has developed well the areas near Arunachal border. Though both the countries have reiterated not to talk on the disputed issues for good bilateral relations. After returning of Singh to homeland some objectionable statements were issued by China in relation to Tavang and some other areas. Prime Minister knows better to remain silent but his silence sometimes tells something. In Arunachal Pradesh his silence broke out and giving this package he tried to show to China that India should not be considered weak. Prime Minister also laid stone of Harmuti-Itanagar railway project. Along with this he reiterated on completing 1840km long national highway and to start its work soon. He also announced that Pasighat, Alang, Deporizo, Ziro and Tizu would be developed and a green field airport would be built in Itanagar. He said that straight helicopter service would be started soon between Guwahati and Tawang. Prime Minister told that Arunachal Pradesh is full of tourist development and water resource and there are lot of possibilities for hydro electric projects which would be helpful in increasing its income. He further said that the state would get revenue of Rs 3-4 thousand crore. His most important statement was that the army would develop infrastructure facilities in several areas of the state. Prime Minister said that first the sun rays touch Arunachal Pradesh in India. It is our land of rising sun. This comment indicates how important is this state for our country. China claims that this part of India does not belong to it and has been laying claim to it after 1962 war. Prime Minister's Arunachal visit indicates that India would never bow before China at any cost.
