Mr. E. Sreedharan, Managing Director, Delhi Metro Road Corporation has been honoured as INDIAN OF THE YEAR 2007 by the TV channel - CNN-IBN. Great. More because it is based solely on merit and significant and lasting contribution to Delhites through Metro. We all are mortal. Everyone including Mr. Sreedharan will go away one day. But his name will be remembered forever for having provided an excellent mode of road transport for all times to come. His example is worth emulation by all well-wishers of the country.
While accepting the Award from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, our former President, Mr. Sreedharan said it was due to work ethics in Delhi Metro Road Corporation from Day One i.e. right from his joining as the MD. Work ethics included three things: Integrity; Professional competence; and following the dictum Time is Money in letter and spirit.
All those occupying senior/top positions need to introspect and ask themselves whether or not they follow these work ethics. There are parasites in all institutions. They need to be ruthlessly dealt with if they don't perform, don't do their duty and help create ugliness all around. In fact, example has to be set by senior/top people. Performers need to be encouraged, if not rewarded.
