Ahmedabad, Jan 31: A day after media reports trickled out about intelligence alerts on alleged threat to L K Advani and Narendra Modi from Dawood Ibrahim, acting under the directions of Pakistan's ISI to assassinate the two leaders, a television network reported on Wednesday that the Gujarat chief minister had received an assassination threat on his personal email address.

Though officials in the CMO in Gandhinagar told TOI that "nothing of this sort has happened", the TV report quoted "intelligence sources" saying that the email warned that Modi will be killed during an interview to a Pakistani media group by some people posing as reporters. The report also said a Pakistani media house had "apparently applied for an interview with Modi about 10 days ago".

The email, according to the TV report, specifically refers to the assassination of legendary Afghan leader Ahmed Shah Masoud by terrorists posing as reporters two days before 9/11. Masoud was the target of a suicide attack on September 9, 2001. The attackers were two Arabs who claimed to be Belgians. The assassins met Masoud for an interview and instead set off a bomb in a belt worn by the cameraman.
