Chronicle News Service

Indore, Jan 31: With the history of gang war and clashes between different groups in the premises of the central jail here, the central jail of Indore has become vulnerable to any kind of attack as well as throwing of an explosive into the central jail premises from outside.

Realizing the gravity of porous security measures, the central jail authorities here have urged the district administration for deputation of adequate number of police jawans at the jail to prevent any untoward incident.

In this regard, central jail superintendent, Sanjay Pande through the district administration has urged the police department to increase the strength of the armed police jawans at the central jail so as to keep a constant tab on the persons meeting prisoners inside the jail premises and check the suspicious looking persons making entry into the central jail.

In his letter, the central jail superintendent has apprised the administration that on an average over 600 persons visit the central jail daily to meet as many as 200 jail inmates. A number of the visitors who come to the jail happen to be of suspicious character who are released from the jail earlier.

These persons when asked about their purpose of visit, they often create ruckus and misbehave with the jail authorities, Pande said adding that keeping these things in mind the central jail of Indore has got exposed to the risk of a deterioration in the law and order position and there is a constantly lurking fear that these suspicious looking persons may throw some explosive or objectionable material inside the central jail from outside.

Recounting an incident that occurred at the central jail recently, Pande said that some criminals who had been released from the jail during their meeting with the jail inmates on January 14 this month, had taken out swords following a tiff and when the jail officials tried to overpower them, they fled. Keeping these things in mind, extra police jawans are required to man the central jail security from outside so as to prevent any untoward incident during the course of kins meeting the jail inmates, the central jail superintendent in his letter said.
