Chronicle News Service

Indore, Jan 13: After a brief lull of about one-and-a-half month, Sanwer on Sunday once again witnessed a communal flare-up after some youths of a particular community beat up a person on Sanwer bus stand, leading to clashes and incidents of stone pelting between the people of two communities. The situation was however, brought under control with timely arrival of the senior police officials and deputation of the police force there in large number.

According to report, a youth identified as Kalu Singh, son of Prahlad Singh, a resident of Barodia village was attacked by two youths of a particular community with lathi at Sanwer bus stand at about 10 am on Sunday morning, leading to fracture in his hand.

Soon after the incident, Kalu Singh went to his village, returned with a group of 10-15 persons and launched an attack on persons in retaliation. Both the groups started pelting stones on each other causing injuries to about half-a-dozen persons.

Thereafter, some persons lashed with arms came on the street. The caused an stampede like situation there with the people running helter-skelter. Shop keepers gripped by fear psychosis started downing their shutters. Soon after receiving information, a police team led by SADOP Rajes Pingolia arrived there to control the situation.

However, the two warring factions undeterred by the police presence continued to indulge in stone pelting. The police finally applied its mild pressure and chased away the people of both the communities. In the meantime, senior police and district officials from Indore including the district collector Vivek Agrawal and Indore range DIG, Madhu Kumar also arrived there and averted the situation from becoming communally tense further.

Talking to this correspondent, DIG Madhukumar described the situation in Sanwer as tense but under control. He said the surcharged situation in Sanwer might could have taken an ugly turn, had the police not arrived there on time and taken preventive measures. Meanwhile , an additional police team has been sent from Indore to Sanwer to keep a tab on the law and order position.

The sensitive Sanwer town and tehsil had been plunged into a communal turmoil about one-and-a-half-month back following a minor scuffle between two groups of people. The incident had claimed lives of two persons. Subsequently, the police had clamped an indefinite curfew there for about three days.
