Pakistan
is witness to terrorist attacks of the worst kind these days.
Rawalpindi was the next in series of human bomb explosions
after Lahore and Karachi. On Thursday a human bomb exploded
near High Court in Rawalpindi claiming 26 innocent lives and
injuring more than 65 people. The dead include 22 police personnel
and 4 common people. After the assassination of former Prime
Minister, Benazir Bhutto the terrorist attacks have increased
and an abnormal situation has been created there. Even after
tight security President Pervez Musharraf also seems to be
bewildered with these incidents. With these attacks and tension
it seems as if the neighbouring country is on the brink of
civil war. Elections are to be held on Feb 8. These attacks
amidst the democratic process in the country are a cause for
concern. At the time of this attack the judges were preparing
to start agitation for reinstating the sacked judges. However,
a point to note here is that the police personnel were the
biggest target of this attack. If police itself is not safe
there then common people would continue to remain in fear.
Pakistan is an important country for South Asia after India.
India gets affected due to the disturbances in its neighbouring
countries. More so in this age of progress and development,
Pakistan lagging due to terrorist activities and violence
is not good for South Asia. Now, there is need to check the
terrorist activities. Though, Pakistan has itself given shelter
to terrorists yet with a view to provide security to the public
now it has become utmost necessary to eliminate terrorism
and fundamentalism. It also becomes duty of the international
community to come forward to rescue Pak from fundamentalist
elements. India should ever keep vigil over the situation
developing in Pakistan. Musharraf should also work with full
dedication to bring normalcy in Pak.
