Village judge, beats up, strips woman

New Delhi, Jan 12: A woman was beaten and stripped in a village in Andhra Pradesh on Friday after being accused of murdering her husband.

A mob in Jalli village in Warangal district accused the woman, Aaliya, of killing her husband because she had an affair with another man. They also accused her of murdering her lover's wife.

Men and women kicked Aaliya, tore at her hair and then stripped her as other people cheered the mob and hurled abuses.

Police rescued Aaliya and sent her to a hospital after registering a complaint against the villagers.

This is the third major case of vigilantism and mob justice in Andhra Pradesh since December 2007. A nurse working in an unauthorised nursing home in Rudrangi village of Karimnagar district was beaten up after a pregnant woman under her care died.

The same month in Karimnagar, a mob tied a man to a crane and hung him upside down over a well after accusing him of theft.
