Preparations for elections: BJP holds brainstorming session

With elections near, the major political parties have started preparations. The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party will not be leaving any chance to win the trust of the voters. The ruling party in Madhya Pradesh organised its brainstorming session for two days at well-known tourist spot Sanchi. During the meeting, the home minister Himmat Kothari accused some of the ministers for indulging in corrupt practices; the leader also spoke on the indiscipline among party workers. This had brought down the reputation of the party, he claimed. Some of the leaders expressed concern over neglect of grassroot workers. This is a dangerous situation wherein the base of the party gets weakened. Once resentment sets in among the workers, the people also become disappointed with the party. It is not good for politics. At the same time the ministers too should improve their behaviour. Open charges of corruption among the ministers, who are supposed to serve the people, are serious. The ministers' behaviour exercises a lot of influence on the party set-up. Though it is important to implement the decisions reached at such sessions, yet it is equally important that ministers and leaders also introspect on their ways of working. BJP has roped in the help of its senior leaders including former Chief Minister Sunderlal Patwa. Though according to the State BJP chief the meeting was a normal procedure to review the performance of the government, yet the differences among some of the leaders aired in the meeting should not be overlooked. The party needs to pay sincere attention to the problems facing the electorate. At the same time it is necessary to speed up development works.
