Chennai, Dec 31:
World number two, Rafel Nadal of Spain, a master on clay winning five of his six titles this season, has not set any goals but plans to be a "better player" in 2008. "I want to be a better player than 2007. I am not saying that I will win more tournaments.I would like to have better results.I want to play better tennis to be a better player in 2008 as compared to 2007. Winning or losing is not important all the time," Nadal, who is known for setting records in the ATP Circuit, said.
On his chances in the Chennai open, Nadal, last year's semi-finalist, said "it is never easy, expecially the first match of the year. The feeling of new-year gives you new feeling.I have improved my ranking points and I have to play well to win."
About Grand slam events, Nadal, who won the French Open this year, said he cannot hope to think of winning all grand slams. "Now I am in Chennai: I don't think I can win the full grand slam in a year. Last year, I won the French Open and reached the final in Wimbledon. But right now I'm here. Chennai open is a good tournament."
On his focusing on doubles play, Nadal, who has retained his second placed rankings for the third year in a row, said "This is the first tournament of the year.It is important I play doubles for practice. I like doubles a lot. When I can, I play a lot of doubles. This year there is special significance because of the Olympic Games. When I feel 100 percent physically and mentally fine, I play both."
As for the "emotional feeling" when he plays for Spain, he said "Olympics is after the four grand slams. The Davis Cup is also there but importantly Olympics comes once in four years. It is a special tournament and sure is a special motivation."
