Gurjar Samaj to boycott BJP

Chronicle News Service

Indore, Dec 31: Problems for the Bharatiya Janata Party in Madhya Pradesh is showing no sign of abetment. After the recent mauling of the BJP in Khargone and Sanwer by-elections, the party is now facing boycott of the Gurjar Samaj which has a sizeable population in the state. The BJP which is already facing boycott of the Gurjar community in Rajasthan over the issue of reservation, is now facing a nation-wide boycott of the Samaj.

An announcement to this effect was taken in a national-level convention of the Akhil Bharatiya Gurjar Mahasabha concluded here on Sunday. Bacchu Singh Gurjar, secretary, Gurjar Mahasabha while addressing a national convention of the Samaj people here said that Gurjar Samaj has a population of about 11 crore in the whole country and the BJP will have to suffer from heavy losses by not subscribing to our demands.

Surprisingly, the announcement of boycott of the BJP at national-level was made in the convention in the presence of two state ministers of the BJP - vis-a-vas Rustam Singh and Kalulal Gurjar, both are ministers in the BJP governments of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan respectively. Apparently taken aback by the boycott announcement, both the leaders in an attempt to correct the damage said the Gurjar Samaj will boycott all the parties who will not support it.

Talking to media persons both the ministers later rejected the announcement of boycott of the BJP by the Gurjar samaj but at the same time maintained that they were with the Samaj on the issue of reservation. Madhya Pradesh panchayat minister Rustam Singh said the Samaj will boycott all those parties who will not be supporting its demands, while Kalulal Gurjar, a BJP minister in Rajasthan government said the state government in Rajasthan was not empowered to give reservation and any decision in this regard, will be taken by the central government, which is a very long process.

The BJP had rode to power in Rajasthan by promising Gurjar community people to bring them under the ambit of reservation but the party went back on its promises after the people of Meena community raised an objection in this regard. Besides a panel constituted in this regard, in its report has also disapproved of giving reservations to the Gurjar community people.
