Uma's u turn over u turn: Cong may reap benefits

It is quite a difficult task to speculate about the national president of Bharatiya Jan Shakti, Uma Bharati's moves. It appears so with her frequent changing of statements. At many times Bharati says something and does its opposite. Due to this reason the continuity of her pronouncements is also lost. Probably the leader herself may not remember as to what she had said over the issue the previous day. Such ways cause losing of trust over the leader. Whether it is an issue related to Gujarat elections or the question of her returning to her parent party -the Bharatiya Janata Party, Uma has changed several colours. This mentality is putting her into a whirlpool of uncertainty. It may be recalled that recently her Guru, Swami Vishweshwar Teerth had advised her to withdraw BJ candidates from the Gujarat polls citing protection to Hindutva. Uma had earlier said that the BJ candidates would fight the polls as independents; later she announced their removal. Experiencing opposition of party leaders Uma again announced that the party would contest Gujarat polls. But, finally she announced the remove the candidates from the polls. This however has been opposed by national general secretary of the BJ, Prahlad Patel who also announced that the BJ candidates would contest the elections. It may be recalled that Uma, while criticising Narendra Modi in last week of October, had announced that she would contest elections along with Keshubhai Patel. Now, Bharati is giving an elder brother's respect to Narendra Modi. Nobody knows what would be Uma's nest step now. However, it cannot be also denied that Uma can take a U turn any time. A similar situation had developed concerning her return to the BJP. For the present this issue is hanging in the balance. Uma's indecisive attitude has created resentment among the party leaders and workers. A number of BJ leaders have left the party. The situation has come to such a pass that Uma's party is on the brink of split. This development would tend to benefit the Congress party.
