In a major broad day light attack on a security force camp, two fidayeen of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) killed five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and injured six others before they were eliminated at Bemina, Srinagar, in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir today.
Four local civilians were also injured in the incident.
HM has claimed responsibility for the attack and warned more attacks in the valley.
This was the first fidayeen attack after January 2010 in Srinagar.
Senior police officers told reporters at the site of encounter that two militants entered the play ground of Police Public School at Bemina on Srinagar-Baramulla highway at 1045 hrs.
Fortunately, the school was closed today due to strike called by Mutahida Majlis Mashawrat (MMM), heading the agitation, demanding the bodies of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) founder Mohammad Maqbool Bhat hanged and buried in Delhi’s Tihar jail.
